Three kilometres south of town, this is a great place to stay, with a wide range of accom-
modation. The hotel rooms are simple but attractively done out in wood and have plenty of
space - some come with their own sauna - and there are also apartments, cottages, cabins
by the river and camping space. The restaurant is the best place to eat in the Muonio area.
Swiss Cafe Konditoria CAFE

A top coffee stop, this brightens up central Muonio with delicious lattes and hot chocol-
ates. It's also worth dropping in for the owner's excellent baking and his fantastic Lapland
photographs on display.

This nature centre has a gift shop, a Thai cafe, slow free internet, and a free 15-minute au-
rora borealis audiovisual.
Getting There & Away
Muonio is at the junction of western Lapland's main two roads: Rd 21, which runs from
Tornio to Kilpisjärvi, and Rd 79, which runs northwest from Rovaniemi via Kittilä.
There are three daily buses from Rovaniemi (€43.90, 3½ hours) via Kittilä, and services
from Kemi/Tornio changing at Kolari.
