In-Depth Information
Hotelli Kalevala
HOTEL
Four kilometres from central Kuhmo, this striking building of wood and concrete is the
area's best place to stay. Pretty rooms in pastel colours mostly have tantalising lake views:
the situation is gorgeous, and the hotel takes full advantage, with a relaxing Jacuzzi and
sauna area with vistas and plenty of activity options in winter and summer.
It tends to close on off-season days when there are no bookings. Restaurant opening de-
pends on bookings too.
Hotelli Kainuu
HOTEL
Right in the slow-beating heart of Kuhmo, this family-run hotel offers rooms that are com-
fortable without being flashy; there's also a gym and sauna, a bar with a terrace, and a res-
taurant, Eskobar, serving uninspiring food. It's cheaper on weekends; a little extra cash
gets you a room with private sauna.
Neljä Kaesaa
CAFE
9.30am-2pm Sat, lunch 10.30am-2.30pm Mon-Fri)
The best central option at lunchtimes, when it doles out portions of warming and tradition-
al Finnish comfort food like stews (sometimes with elk) or fried
muikku
(vendace, or
whitefish, a small lake fish). Opens extended hours during the festival.
Information
There's no tourist office. The town hall, sights and hotels give out info.
