The impressive collection at Joensuu's art museum spans Chinese pieces, examples of Fin-
nish modernism and an intriguing selection of Orthodox icons.
Town Hall NOTABLE BUILDING

Dominating the town centre, the art deco town hall was designed by Eliel Saarinen - the
architect most famous for Helsinki's train station - and completed in 1914. It now houses
the local theatre and terrific Teatteri restaurant.
Orthodox Church of St Nicholas CHURCH

Joensuu's most intriguing church is the wooden Orthodox church, built in 1887 with icons
painted in St Petersburg during the late 1880s.

Pielisjoki Cruise CRUISE

From June to mid-August, the M/S Vinkeri II and M/S Satumaa run two-hour scenic
cruises on the Pielisjoki, departing from the passenger harbour south of Suvantosilta
bridge. Sailing schedules are posted online; buy tickets on board.
