Wildlife
Bears Observe these magnificent carnivores through the long summer evenings from the
comfort of a hide in Kuusamo , among several other places.
Elk These large beasts are widespread over Finland but harder to see now that increased
fencing tends to keep them off the roads. Try an elk-watching safari out of Kuhmo for your
best chance.
Reindeer These domesticated animals are ubiquitous in Lapland , so much so that they are
a real hazard on the roads. There are numerous places where you can meet and feed them,
or take a sled safari with them in winter.
Wolverines With luck, you'll spot this elusive predator on a trip out of Lieksa .
Seals The rare Saimaa ringed seal is a freshwater variety, best seen by grabbing a canoe
and exploring the lakes of the Kolovesi and Linnansaari national parks .
