In-Depth Information
In a noble blue building by the harbour, this has one of Lakeland's best terraces, definitely
the place to be on a sunny day to watch the boats come and go. There's decent Finnish fish
and meat dishes, and regular live music. Hours reduce at the beginning and end of the sea-
son.
Albatrossi
PUB
Fri-Sun May-mid-Sep)
This old wooden warehouse conversion is an atmospheric place to see some live music or
grab a drink, particularly when you can sit outside and look at the lake. Drinks are served
in plastic, but the atmosphere's great. Opening hours vary week by week: check its Face-
book page.
Helmi
PUB
noon-2am Sat, noon-8pm Sun)
This historic 19th-century sailors' hang-out by the harbour has recently been remodelled
and is a cosy, comfortable spot with a range of local characters. There's a decent pool
table, tasty pizzas (€8 to €10) and a sociable enclosed terrace.
Ilona
CLUB
The city's best nightclub has an attractive London-themed bar with a smoking cabin done
out like a red bus, and a separate karaoke bar where enthusiastic punters belt out Suomi
hits. There's a fat list of English-language songs if you don't fancy trying out your Finnish
vowels. There's a 22-year-old minimum age on weekends.
