Quiet, romantic and welcoming, the 'cat's whiskers' is an enticing choice. The genteel up-
stairs dining room is complemented by an atmospheric cellar space when busy. Dishes are
thoughtfully prepared and feature delicious combinations of hearty flavours such as sal-
mon with baked fennel, or well-proportioned meat dishes with sinfully creamy wild mush-
room sauces.

The Hotel Yöpuu's fine-dining restaurant makes a tempting meal stop. There are various
set menus, including an eight-course degustation special, but à la carte dining is rewarding
here too, with main courses fairly priced for the exceptional quality on offer. Wines are
pricey, but there's a good selection including some great Burgundy, and the welcoming
staff are keen to explain the matching possibilities.
Drinking & Nightlife
Jyväskylä's students ensure a lively nightlife when they're not on holidays. Head down to
the harbour for relaxed decktop drinking on one of a clutch of boat bars.

A short walk from the city centre is this excellent bar with a spacious wooden terrace, a
good menu of snacks and soak-it-all-up bar meals with decent veggie options, and plenty
of lively student and academic discussion lubricated by a range of good bottled and
draught beers. A great place.
