This staffless hotel is quite a bargain. Rooms are clean, comfortable, modern and spacious;
some have a fold-out bed so sleep up to four. Book online. It's about 15 minutes' walk
from the town centre; turn right out of the train or bus station, then left on Savilahdenkatu;
Raviradantie is on your right after crossing the small river.
Huoneistohotelli Marja APARTMENT
( 044-777-0676; www.marjanmatkakoti.fi ; Jääkärinkatu 8;s €78, d €98-122; )
In a characterful wooden 19th-century barracks building right by the infantry museum,
Jalkaväkimuseo, friendly Marja offers very pleasant, quirky apartment-style rooms, handi-
crafts for sale and a genuine welcome. She also has a nearby guesthouse with slightly
cheaper chambers.
Pruuvi MEDITERRANEAN
( www.oxa.fi/pruuvi ;Raatihuoneenkatu 4;mains €14-27; 11am-10pm Mon-Thu, 11am-11pm Fri,
2-11pm Sat; )
With a cellar-like ambience just off the kauppatori, this is welcoming and turns out decent
dishes with Finnish and Mediterranean influences: a slab of salmon in bouillabaisse, for
example. Lunch is buffet-style. Upstairs is Päämaja, a pretty good pub with a range of
home-brewed beers.
