Savonlinna's nicest cafe is this lovely spot, tucked away on a wooden island north of the
town centre. It's a very pleasant stroll over bridges to get there; when you do, relax with a
book and a cup of coffee or try the tasty choose-your-own-filling pancakes.

Run by a stout grandmotherly figure, this is a worthwhile option on the square to try the
local speciality,

available here with all sorts of fillings. Delicious!

This noble wooden building was formerly a fever hospital then asylum, but writes happier
stories now as an excellent microbrewery and restaurant across the harbour from the town
centre. Food focuses on fresh local ingredients with some unusual meats sometimes featur-
ing, all expertly prepared and served. Home-brewed beers are exquisite and the terrace is a
wonderful place on a sunny afternoon, with occasional live music.
