Ilves & Tappara ICE HOCKEY

Tampere's two ice-hockey teams - Ilves and Tappara - are among Finland's best; the city is
generally regarded as the Finnish home of the sport. Hakametsä Ice Stadium, 2km east of
the train station, has matches from September to March. Buy tickets (around €15 to €35)
here or from www.lippupalvelu.fi (Tappara) or www.lippu.fi (Ilves). Eastbound bus 5, 20
or 24 gets you there.

Just east of Laukontori Market Sq, this attractive converted brick factory has Finnish craft
boutiques.
Tallipiha CRAFTS

This restored collection of 19th-century stableyards and staff cottages houses artists and
craftworkers who make handicrafts, chocolates, ceramics and shoes. The cafe and a shop
or two open outside summer, but there's not much going on, except at Christmastime.
