Åland's museum offers an insight into the islands' history, with exhibits including a rep-
lica of a Stone Age boat made of sealskin and a large illustration of Bomarsund in all its
glory. The adjoining art gallery has changing exhibitions and paintings by local artists.
Both are expected to reopen after renovations for summer 2015.
Sjökvarteret BOATYARD, MUSEUM

At the northern end of Österhamn, Sjökvarteret has long been devoted to boat-building.
You can stroll along the quay, lined with traditional schooners, and perhaps see boats un-
der construction. The museum , with exhibitions on ship-building (no English informa-
tion), is located in a small timber boatshed. Also here is a reconstructed seafarers'
chapel as well as galleries, unique jewellery and an excellent craft shop .
Sankt Göran's Kyrka CHURCH

The copper-roofed Sankt Göran's Kyrka, built in 1927, is one of the few modern churches
on the islands. Its art nouveau style was conceived by Lars Sonck, who grew up in Åland.
The glittering mosaic altarpiece is a real highlight.
