Getting There & Away
AIR
Åland's airport is 4km northwest of Mariehamn, served by NextJet ( www.nextjet.se ) (Turku
and Stockholm-Arlanda, Sweden; both from €55 one way), FlyBe ( www.flybe.com ) (Hel-
sinki; from €29) and business airline Turku Air ( 020-721-8800; www.turkuair.fi ) (Turku;
from €222). There are no regular buses: a taxi ( 018-10066) to the city centre costs about
€15.
BOAT
Several car ferries head to Åland. Prices vary with season and web specials are common;
cars and cabins cost extra.
From Naantali, northwest of Turku, Finnlink ferries serve Långnäs, Lumparland.
Alternatively, consider travelling via the archipelago ferries .
Eckerö Linjen FERRY

Eckerö ( 018-28300; www.eckerolinjen.ax ;Berghamn, Eckerö) . Sails from Eckerö to Grissle-
hamn, Sweden (adult/adult and car €4/18, two hours).
Tallink/Silja Lines FERRY

Runs direct services to Mariehamn from Turku (adult/adult and car €12/32, five hours),
Helsinki (€33/80, 12 hours) and Stockholm (€12/32, six hours). Ferries also run to Lång-
näs, Lumparland, from Stockholm (€18/59, 5½ hours) and Turku (€12/44, five hours).
Viking Line FERRY

Ferries to Mariehamn from Turku (adult/adult and car €14/32, five hours), Helsinki (€30/
66, 11 hours) and Stockholm (€11/32, 5½ hours). Ferries also link Långnäs, Lumparland,
with Stockholm (€42/66, 5½ hours).
