In-Depth Information
Right opposite the cathedral, this gold-coloured wooden building couldn't be better placed.
There's a real range here, from the four-poster bed and slick design of the Funkishuone to
the rustic single Talonpoikaishuone. Top of the line is the honeymoon suite, a small self-
contained apartment with bathtub and complimentary champagne. Breakfast is downstairs
where there's a terraced cafe and upmarket restaurant space.

Eating & Drinking
Porvoo's most atmospheric cafes, restaurants and bars are in the Old Town and along the
riverfront. For cheaper eats, hit the area around the kauppatori.
Porvoo is famous for its sweets; Brunberg ( www.brunberg.fi ;Välikatu 4;6 truffles €6.90;

while the delicious Runeberg cake, a dense rum-and-almond-flavoured cylinder crowned
with white icing and raspberry jam, is ubiquitous.
Café Helmi CAFE

A kindly Russian grandmother would happily take tea from the distinctive lilac-and-white
cups in the courtyard of this Tsarist teahouse. It does one of the best Runeberg tarts, but
regular cakes and chocolates will also have you loosening your belt. Closed Mondays and
Tuesdays in winter.
