More than 200 boats compete in the Hanko Regatta. It usually takes place on the first
(sometimes second) weekend of July, attracting thousands of spectators and a high-spirited
carnival atmosphere.
Sleeping
Several of Hanko's Empire-era Russian-style villas operate as B&Bs. Don't expect luxury,
but do come with open mind and lively appreciation of history! You can book private ac-
commodation (sometimes in villas) through the tourist office.

Situated 4km northeast of the town centre, this well-shaded campground stretches along a
private beach. Its simple six-person huts are supplemented by newer, swisher four-person
cottages. Hop on a bike (per four/24 hours €7/20) for a spin into and around town.
Villa Maija RUSSIAN VILLA

Built in 1888, this is Hanko's best villa accommodation. Flawlessly restored rooms are so
cosy and packed with character that it's difficult to prise yourself away. Prices vary ac-
cording to the size of the room, and whether it has a private bathroom and balcony facing
the sea. Breakfast is excellent.
Out the back, Villa Janne and Villa Anke are as light-filled and pleasant as the main
building.
