In Kimito village.
Getting There & Around
Buses run from Taalintehdas and, five minutes' later, Dragsfjärd to Turku (€17.30, two
hours, 12 daily) and Helsinki (€32.80, three to four hours, six daily).
From Taalintehdas, free ferries serve the southern archipelago islands in summer, such
as Hitis (Hiittinen). Check timetables at Ferry.fi , which also has details of taxi boats.
SOUTH COAST
Finland's south coast is a boaties' paradise, with numerous islets forming chains of ar-
chipelagos. Most of the charming, history-steeped coastal towns offer summer cruises,
guest harbour facilities, and charter boats to discover your own island.
In the hinterland you'll find intriguing bruk (ironworks) precincts and lakes.
West of Helsinki
From Kimito island to the western fringes of Finland's capital are a scattering of pretty
lakeside and coastal towns and villages.
Hanko
019 / Pop 9270
On a long sandy peninsula, Hanko (Swedish: Hangö) recalls the past grandeur of its hey-
day as a well-to-do Russian spa town in the late 19th century, and its opulent seaside villas
from the era remain a star attraction. Visitors still flock here for the sun, sand and party at-
mosphere of the huge Hanko Regatta.
