In-Depth Information
There are direct flights to Helsinki-Vantaa airport ( www.helsinki-vantaa.fi ) , Finland's main
air terminus, from many major European cities and several intercontinental ones. The air-
port is at Vantaa, 19km north of Helsinki.
Between them, Finnair ( 0600-140140; www.finnair.fi ) and cheaper FlyBe
( www.flybe.com ) cover 18 Finnish cities, usually at least once per day.
BOAT
International ferries travel to Stockholm, Tallinn, St Petersburg and German destinations.
There is also regular fast-boat service to Tallinn.
There are five main terminals, three close to the kauppatori: Katajanokan Terminaali is
served by tram 4T, Makasiiniterminaali by tram 1A and 2, and Olympia Terminaali by
trams 1A, 2 and 3. Länsiterminaali (West Terminal) is served by trams 6T and 9, while
further-afield Hansaterminaali (Vuosaari) can be reached on bus 90A or 78 from Vuosaari
metro.
Purchase tickets at the terminal, ferry company offices, online or (in some cases) the
tourist office. Book well in advance during high season (late June to mid-August), and on
weekends.
