In-Depth Information
This covered laneway off Aleksanterinkatu has a boisterous, meat-markety summer scene
once the restaurant terraces are done with serving food for the night. There's usually a €5
admission charge.
OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
THE CALL OF KALLIO
For Helsinki's cheapest beer (around €3 to €4 a pint), hit working-class Kallio (near
Sörnäinen metro station), north of the city centre. Here, there's a string of dive bars along
Helsinginkatu, but on this street as well as on the parallel Vaasankatu and crossing Flem-
inginkatu you'll find several more characterful bohemian places: go for a wander and
you'll soon find one you like.
