The maritime interior of this old sailors' eatery hosts an impressive husband-and-wife team
who turn out a great-value Finnish buffet for dinner. Though these days it sees plenty of
tourists, it serves solid traditional fare, with salmon, soup, reindeer and friendly explana-
tions of what goes with what. There's also limited à la carte available.

Near the Sibelius monument in a marvellous waterside location, this historic cottage is
scarcely bigger than a sauna, but has great outdoor seating on the bay. You can hire a ca-
noe or paddleboards alongside, buy sausages and grill them over the open fire, or just kick
back with a drink or cinnamon pastry. Expect to queue on sunny weekends.

Offering majestic sea views, this cafe looks over the Helsinki archipelago and has marvel-
lous outside seating. In winter you can sit in the modern interior and watch the ice on the
sea. It's a posh lunch stop with good if pricey daily specials, elaborate open sandwiches,
tasty cakes and glasses of fizz. It opens until midnight in summer, when Sunday brunch
(€22) is a great option.

serves cheap, tasty authentic home cooking, including the excellent dumplings it's named
after.
