EAT.FI
A good resource is the website www.eat.fi , which plots restaurants on a map of town:
even if you can't read the reviews (though there are usually some in English), you'll soon
spot what are the latest favourites and what's open.
ISLAND DINING
There's no better way to appreciate Helsinki's seaside location than by heading out to one
of the many island restaurants. Most are served by small boats ferrying to and from
quays on the mainland opposite. Most famous is stylish, spired Saaristo ( MAP
GOOGLE MAP ; 09-7425-5505; www.asrestaurants.com ; Luoto;mains €21-33; noon-11pm Mon-
Fri May-Jun, 5-11pm daily Jul-Sep), on Luoto island and famous for society weddings and
crayfish parties. There are several others; quality of food and service tends to vary each
summer, so ask around about where's good that year. Even if you're not dining, the is-
lands can make a refreshing break and give a new perspective on the city. The boats cost
around €5 to €8 return for non-diners and run every 10 to 20 minutes during eating
hours.
