TUR CHLIAMAINN
Highlights
1 Garenin (Gearrannan), Lewis An

when they were last inhabited. See p.307
2 Callanish (Calanais) standing stones
Scotland's finest standing stones are in a serene
lochside setting on the west coast of the Isle of
Lewis. See p.307
3 Beaches The western seaboard of the Outer
Hebrides, particularly on South Harris and the
Uists, is strewn with stunning, deserted
beaches backed by flower-strewn machair.
See p.314
4 Rodel (Roghadal) Church, Harris Rodel's
pre-Reformation St Clement's Church, at the
southernmost tip of Harris, boasts the most
ornate sculptural decoration in the Outer
Hebrides. See p.315
5 Barra Barra is a great introduction to the
Western Isles: a Hebridean island in miniature,
with golden sands, crystal-clear rocky bays and
mountains of Lewissian gneiss. See p.324
