6.1.5 Application Deployment Architecture and Environment
6.1.5.1 Network Diagram of the Deployment Environment
Panthera has provided a basic network topology (Figure 6.1) of their datacenter and network
operations center at Cupertino, California. Accordingly, Panthera has two types of connectivity
established to carry out its daily operations. Panthera is connected to all its stores spread across
four states in the United States through a private MPLS connection. he MPLS connectivity
terminates on the MPLS router and is then routed to a irewall, where traic is iltered before
providing connectivity to the server farm. Panthera's POS application, accounting, and inventory
management application, among others, are housed in the main datacenter, and Panthera's stores
require to connect to the main datacenter to access all this information.
Panthera's connectivity to and from the Internet is through two layers of irewalls and network
traic iltering. Internet traic is connected through the Internet router, and the irst level of
network traic is done with the integrated irewall and IPS device. Panthera has created a demili-
tarized zone (DMZ) for its public servers, and the e-commerce Web server will be hosted in the
DMZ. he internal network zone, which basically consists of the server farm, is behind the second
irewall. he e-commerce database server will be housed in the server farm. he network diagram
for Panthera's operations has been explained in Figure 6.1.
6.1.5.2 Application Architecture Overview
Based on Panthera's requirements and after further discussions with their management and opera-
tional stakeholders, the application architects at Jaguar have drawn up a basic application archi-
tecture diagram for the purpose of having a preliminary understanding of the new application
