This chapter introduces topics that build on
the fundamentals you have learned in the other
chapters of this topic. Now that we have designed
and built a database, we are ready to put it to work. In
Chapter 11, we built a Web database application for the View Ridge Gallery
(VRG) Information System, and in this chapter we will use look at business
intelligence (BI) systems applications. Additionally, this chapter looks at
the problems associated with the rapidly expanding amount of data that is
being stored and used in enterprise information systems and some of the
technology that is being used to address those problems.
These problems are generally included in the need to deal with Big Data
(also often written as big data ), which is the current term for the enormous
