The only sound was the soft scrunch of the pulse in his ears. With its arched verti-
cal pitch of two thousand feet, The Spectre towered above and slightly forward of the
lesser deities attendant at its flanks. Fleecy clouds rolled up and over the backside of
the peaks, adding motion to the silence. After paying proper homage, Blackburn un-
packed the Zeiss, shot the “fine photo eVects” for later revelation to the world, “and slid
on back to camp on the long boards.”
