Using a Graphical User Interface
To confirm that your computer is configured to receive its IP address from a DHCP server, do
the following:
1.
Open the Network Connections applet.
2.
Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon.
3.
Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and select Properties.
4.
Confirm that the radio button next to Obtain an IP Address Automatically is selected.
5.
Click on the Support tab. In the Connection Status section, confirm that the Address
Type is listed as Assigned by DHCP. Confirm that the assigned IP Address, Subnet Mask,
and Default Gateway are valid for the local network.
6.
Click Close when you're finished.
To release and renew the IP address lease of a DHCP-enabled computer, follow these steps:
1.
Open the Network Connections applet.
2.
Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon.
3.
Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and select Properties.
4.
Click on the Support tab and select Repair.
5.
Click Close when you're done.
Using a Command-Line Interface
The following command will release the currently held IP address and request a new lease from
the DHCP server.
> ipconfig /renew
Note You can perform this in two separate steps by first issuing an ipconfig /release command,
followed by ipconfig /renew .
Using the Registry
To disable Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) for a particular adapter, create the following
Registry value:
