8-13. Enabling and Using Browser-Based Printing
Problem
You want to enable printing and printer management through a web browser.
Solution
To enable browser-based printing, you must first install the component if it is not already on
your system, as follows:
1.
Start the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet.
2.
Select Add/Remove Windows Components.
3.
Check the option to install Internet Printing from within Application Server

4.
Click OK twice to return to the main screen.
5.
Click Next to start the installation wizard.
Next, follow these steps to verify that Internet Printing is installed and enabled:
1.
Start the Internet Information Services (IIS Manager) console from the Administrative
Tools folder.

Expand

Web Service Extensions in the left pane.

In the right pane, verify that Internet Printing is allowed. If it is not, right-click it and
select Allow.
Now that you've installed and configured browser-based printing, you can access it either
as an end user or as an administrator. To do so, go to any browser and navigate to
http://
<
ServerName
>/Printers
. Your browser will load a page with links to shared printers.
The following options are available in the View category:
The Document List option shows a list of all documents queued for the given printer.
Field names include document name, status, owner, pages, size, and time submitted.
The Properties option shows a list of general properties of the printer, including print
queue status, number of documents in queue, printer model, location, comments,
network name (URL), number of documents in the queue, printer speed, color capabili-
ties, printability on both sides of paper, and maximum resolution.
The All Printers option shows a list of all network printers with hyperlinks to the printer.
The list also includes the printer status, location, number of jobs pending, printer model,
and comments.
The following options are available in the Printer Actions category:
