6-9. Configuring Connection Request Policies
Problem
You want to configure a connection request policy on an IAS server. Connection request poli-
cies are similar to remote access policies, but they are specifically intended to manage RADIUS
traffic to determine whether it should be handled locally or forwarded to a remote RADIUS server.
Solution
Configuring a Typical Connection Request Policy
To configure a typical connection request policy, do the following:
1.
Open the IAS MMC snap-in.
2.
Expand the Connection Request Processing node in the left pane.
3.
Right-click Connection Request Policies and select New Connection Request Policy.
4.
Click Next on the wizard's initial Welcome screen.
5.
On the Policy Configuration Method screen, select the A Typical Policy for a Common
Scenario radio button. Enter a descriptive name for the policy in the Policy Name text
box. Then click Next.
6.
On the Request Authentication screen, specify where connection requests that meet
the criteria of this policy should be authenticated. Select one of the following options:
￿ Authenticate connection requests on this server
￿ Forward connection requests to a remote RADIUS server for authentication
7.
If you configure this policy to authenticate requests locally, you must also specify the
way in which remote users connect to the IAS server. Select from one of the following
options:
￿ Users connect to this server through an Internet service provider (ISP)
￿ Users dial directly into this server or connect through a virtual private network (VPN)
8.
Click Next to continue.
Note If your users will be dialing directly into the IAS server or connecting through a VPN, the New
Connection Request Policy Wizard will skip steps 9 and 10.
