On the Authentication Methods screen, place a check mark next to as many of the
following methods as needed:
￿ Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP): If you select this method, you need to
select one of two EAP types, based on your method of access and your network
configuration. From the Type drop-down box, select either the Protected EAP (PEAP)
option or the Smart Card or Other Certificate option.
￿ Microsoft Encrypted Authentication version 2 (MS-CHAPv2) : Select this option if
your users supply a password for authentication.
￿ Microsoft Encrypted Authentication (MS-CHAP) : MS-CHAP is less secure than MS-
CHAPv2. Select this option only if your network runs operating systems that do not
support MS-CHAPv2.

Click Next when you've finished selecting and configuring authentication methods.

On the Policy Encryption screen, select the level of encryption that the server will
accept from incoming client connections. Choose one or more of the following:
￿ Basic Encryption (IPSec 56-bit DES or MPPE 40-bit)
￿ Strong Encryption (IPSec 56-big DES or MPPE 56-bit)
￿ Strongest Encryption (IPSec Triple DES or MPPE 128-bit)

Click Next to continue.

Click Finish to create a typical remote access policy.
Configuring a Custom Policy
To create a remote access policy based on a custom set of criteria, do the following:
1.
Open the IAS MMC snap-in.
2.
Right-click Remote Access Policies and select New Remote Access Policy.
3.
Click Next on the wizard's initial Welcome screen.
4.
On the Policy Configuration Method screen, select the Set Up a Custom Policy radio
button. Enter a descriptive name in the Policy Name text box. Then click Next.
5.
On the Policy Conditions screen, click Add. Specify one or more conditions that this
remote access policy should check, based on the following list:
￿ Authentication-Type
￿ Called-Station-Id
￿ Calling-Station-Id
￿ Client-Friendly-Name
