Using the Registry
You can set the WINS server to notify its pull-replication partners of its status when the service
starts by creating or modifying the following Registry value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Wins\Parameters\Pull]
"InitTimeReplication"=dword:1
You can specify the maximum number of attempts a WINS server will make for pull replication
by creating or modifying the following Registry value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Wins\Parameters\Pull]
"CommRetryCount"=dword: <NumAttempts>
Replace <NumAttempts> with the desired number of attempts. The default value is 3.
How It Works
Pull replication is the process in which a WINS server sends a trigger to one or more replication
partners requesting that the partner push its updated records to the requesting WINS server,
thereby ensuring a consistent and comprehensive database on each WINS server. This process
may be manually initiated, or it can occur at regular, predefined intervals. You can configure
pull replication to occur either when the WINS service starts or after a specific time interval.
Global replication parameters apply to the WINS server on which they are configured, and
do not relate to any specific replication partner. In general, the replication parameters depend
on the overall WINS topology. Considerations include the number of partners as well as their
placement in the LAN or WAN and the integrity and speed of the connections between servers.
For slow or non-reliable links, you should specify a higher number of retries in the event
that replication fails. Conversely, for reliable high-speed links, it may be acceptable to use
persistent connections, since their impact on overall network performance will be minimized.

2-15. Setting Global Push-Replication Properties
Problem
You want to set global push-replication parameters.
Solution
Using a Graphical User Interface
1.
Open the WINS MMC snap-in.
2.
Right-click the Replication Partners subnode in the left pane, and select Properties.
