Processing the dimension to review the results
Now it is time to deploy and process the dimension for the first time. This will allow
the cube to be browsed. The deployment step will send the definition of the dimen-
sion down to the server. After the deployment has succeeded, the server will process
the dimension, in this step all the values from the table will be read from the source
and stored in Analysis Services. To process and browse the newly created cube, fol-
low these steps:
1. Click on the
Process
button up in the left-hand corner of the dimension edit-
or.
2. After a while the
Process Dimension
window will appear. Click on the
Run
button.
3. The
Process Progress
window will appear and after it has processed suc-
cessfully, click on the
Close
button.
4. Click on the
Close
button in the
Process Dimension
window.
5. Now that the dimension has been processed, you can browse the dimension
for the first time. In the dimension editor, click on the
Browser
tab and check
out the dimension as it will be seen by the user. If you find that the dimen-
sion attributes are sorted in the wrong way like you can see in the following
screenshot, you need to specify the
OrderBy
property to be
Key
instead of
Name
.
