Introducing Power View - an analytical tool
With SQL Server 2008 R2, the Reporting Services team released a new tool called
Power View. Power View runs as a web application within SharePoint, targeting end
users. Power View is also available as part of Excel 2013 Professional. In Chapter 9 ,
In-memory, the Future , you created a simple Power View report within Excel 2013;
the same report can be created in the web interface in SharePoint. Power View al-
lows end users to create highly-interactive reports containing both maps and moving
charts. The charts are connected to each other, which means that you can filter one
chart by clicking on another.
The two major drawbacks with Power View in SharePoint are that it requires Silver-
light as a browser plugin and that it only works against tabular models. Both of them
will be addressed in future releases and then the tool will be even more useful.
