Summary
MDX is a very powerful language used to query Analysis Services cubes. It is a posi-
tional language meaning that you position yourself within the multidimensional space
in a cube; you do this by creating tuples by defining the unique names of the mem-
bers. This chapter also showed how you could create calculations and sets and refer-
ence them through names in your queries.
This chapter also covered Excel as a querying tool, a very powerful tool that can be
used to create nice looking reports. You also have the ability to use tools like Report-
ing Services to query your cubes.
In the next chapter, we will add some more complex capabilities to the cube such as
KPIs and calculations.
