cheapest options, oddly located in a business district
30mins walk from the centre, but perfectly smart and clean
and offering good value for money. Some rooms have self-

and rather uninspiring hotel, roughly 20mins walk from the
centre. Rooms are plain and simple but clean and
presentable, though you might find some disturbingly pink

pp.54-55. The best rooms in this good-value place are at
the front, offering great views out over the sea and Mount
Esja. Warm autumn colours throughout, with lot s of browns

functional hotel offering discounts for stays of three nights
or more, and worth considering if other more central places
are fully booked. Rooms are plainly decorated and
unadventurous, b ut the lo cation's within easy reach of

map pp.54-55. Iceland's biggest hotel, with over three
hundred rooms: the marble floors, chrome fittings and
wood panels are sure to delight, though for the money you
may wish t o be close r to the centre - it's a good 25min walk

The Hilton chain's one and only hotel in Iceland is big on
Nordic minimalism: glass, chrome and natural wood are
everywhere you look. Rooms at the fr ont of the building

busy and impersonal hotel stuffed with stopover travellers.
A recent makeover has freshened up the 200-odd rooms
located place which first opened its doors in 1965. Rooms are
of the Persian-carpet, dark-wood-panelling, red-leath er-

and refreshingly quirky, this new harbourside hotel not
only enjoys terrific views of the trawlers in dry dock right
outside, but its rooms also have a ma ritime feel l with a twist

central Reykjavík's better hotels and a sound choice:
modern throughout, with tasteful wooden floors, oak

overlooking Hallgrímskirkja, right in the heart of the city,
this is a small, friendly and neatly furnished place; the top-
floor rooms, built into the sloping roof, are particularly

and within an easy trot of virtually everything. The
elegantly decorated rooms have wooden floors, neutral
decor, comfortable Scandinavian -style furn iture and top-

The style in this tastefully renovated old building a stone's
throw from Austurstræti is Nordic minimalism meets old-
fashioned charm, with the heavy wooden floors, plain

shipping line, this Art Deco hotel combines old-fashioned

1900s style, this hotel offers a curious yet pleasing mix of
stylish and homely, and is just a stone's throw from the
