What Is Mass Haul?
Without getting too technical, mass haul
is the concept of tracking the excavation,
movement, and placement of earth during
the process of constructing a road. By
analyzing mass haul, these activities can
be minimized, thus minimizing the cost to
construct the road.
Construction Rules In this section, you
specify the thresholds for the creation of
bridges and tunnels (see Figure 3-4 ). For
bridges, this is a maximum fill height, and
for tunnels this is a maximum cut depth.

Construction & Earthwork Cost In this
section you assign cost values for earthwork
and construction. Earthwork costs include
items such as excavation, borrow, waste,
and so on, while construction costs include
