Simple Curve For a simple curve, the curb
return is created as a simple fillet using a
single curve.
Simple Curve with Taper For this
configuration, the lane is widened outward
by a distance equal to the Offset value. This
is applied to the incoming and outgoing
road. The Taper value controls the angle of
the taper and consequently the length of the
transition area between the normal road
width and the application of the offset; the
smaller the value, the more abrupt the taper.
So, for example, a road that has an offset of
5′ (2 m) and a taper of 5:1 will require a
transition area length of 25′ (10m) (see
Figure 2-37 ).
