In-Depth Information
In “Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression,” Stacy Smith presents ASTC, a
new texture compression format that has been accepted as a Khronos standard.
ASTC is set to pretty much replace all existing compressed texture formats. It
supports bit rates ranging from 0.89 bpp up to 8 bpp for both LDR and HDR
textures. This chapter explains how it works, how to use it, and how to get the
most out of it.
In “Optimizing OpenCL Kernels for ARM Mali-T600 GPUs,” Johan Gron-
qvist and Anton Lokhmotov go into the details of writing e cient OpenCL kernels
for ARM Mali-T600 GPUs. This chapter introduces the ARM Mali-T600 GPU
series and goes into a deep discussion of the performance characteristics of various
OpenCL kernels.
Lastly, I would like to thank all the contributors of this section for their great
work and excellent chapters.
