Chapter 10. Adding Photographic
Touches in Post-production
In many ways, we come now to possibly the most important chapter of all in our quest
to learn how we go about producing photographic renders in SketchUp and V-Ray,
and ironically, we won't be using either of those applications. What we want to do now
is to add some of the finishing touches to the good work that we have done up to this
point in our 3D applications that will enhance or add to the photographic feel of our
finished image.
Now, of course, a number of the steps that we will perform here could quite easily
have been taken inside V-Ray itself, but for the sake of both speed and artistic flex-
ibility, which of course are absolutely essential when working on commercial projects,
we will handle them here instead.
Defining our goals
For one last time then, we want to define the goals that we are setting ourselves for
this final portion of the project. Essentially, we want to layer up a number of subtle
operations in our image that, when combined together, help push it towards a more
photographic feel. At the same time, of course, we want to create our edits in such a
way as to give ourselves the ability to go back and tweak or alter them anytime we
want.
