tion allows the RGB system to cheat in a convincing manner.

Red, green, and blue are designated as primary colors of light due to the fact that
they are unique. While these three colors can be mixed together to create a rep-
resentation of all other colors found in the visible light spectrum, they themselves
cannot be created by means of the same mixing process.
Because the display technologies that digital artists would work with were already
making use of this simplified yet extremely functional color model, it seemed only
sensible that computer graphics applications, such as editing software and render
engines, would adopt this same approach to color reproduction for their internal cal-
culations.
What this means for the digital artist working inside a 3D render engine is that, rather
than worry about reproducing complex physics interactions in order to reproduce col-
