In-Depth Information
When we start to consider the possible number of variations that exist in just these
three basic interactions of light, combine those possibilities with the enormous vari-
ety of materials or surface types that are available in the physical universe, and then
combine those facts with the variety of lighting and indeed visual systems (eyes,
cameras, and so on) through or on which color images can potentially be seen, then
we should start to realize that there are a staggering number of color shades that
can potentially exist.
In fact, armed with that thought, we may start to ask how (given that recreating reality
would perhaps be a little bit beyond the capabilities of our humble desktop PC) we
can possibly represent color in anything like an accurate manner using computer
hardware and software. Well, this is where we start to understand the importance of
what is known as the RGB color model.
