In-Depth Information
Note
As ceilings can generally be kept pretty neutral in terms of color, it is obvious that
the walls are more likely to change the feel of our interior. Therefore, tackling the
colored wall material before moving on to the ceiling seems like a sensible way
to proceed. Again, the choices made here are very much scene dependent and
may need to be quite different when you work on your own scenes.
Painting the walls
This time, rather than starting the texturing process with a SketchUp material, we will
approach things from more of a V-Ray-oriented perspective. In our V-Ray material
editor, let's perform the following steps:
1. Right-click on the
Scene Materials
label and select the
Standard
option
from the
Create Material
flyout.
2. Right-click on the newly added
DefaultMaterial
list entry, select the
Rename
Material
option, type
Walls
in the pop-up dialog box, and click on
Ok
.
3. Double-click on the wall geometry to open the group, and then, using the
Ctrl
key along with the Select, Pan, Orbit, and Look Around tools, left-click to se-
lect all of the wall geometry in the gallery room that we are currently viewing.
4. In the V-Ray material editor, right-click on the
Walls
material and use the
Ap-
ply Material to Selection
option.
5. From the
Edit
menu, use the
Close Group/Component
command.
6. Finally, click on the
POV Shot - Main Gallery
scene tab in order to reset the
camera view.
Tip
If you are uncertain as to whether or not a particular material assignment
operation has worked, simply select the diffuse color swatch in the new
material and switch it to something very obvious such as a bright green.
This should instantly show up in the SketchUp viewport. If it doesn't, then
clearly the material assignment needs to be re-done.
