We need to take this step so that our TexSky controls become accessible
and editable.
2. In the
Environment
rollout, click on the
GI (skylight)
map button.
3. Then in the V-Ray texture editor, ensure that the
Turbidity
value in the
Sun
control section is set to
3
.
4. Set the
Ozone
value to
0.1
, and finally click on
OK
to exit the texture editor.
With those changes applied, we need to once again disable
Indirect illumination
and then come up to the V-Ray toolbar and click on the render button.
Although the differences we see in the colors of the final render are subtle, they will
nevertheless alter the feel of the lighting in the final render.
The shadow quality
One thing that we can perhaps very readily perceive while focusing on the sunlight
in our current render is the fact that we appear to have a bit of a problem with our
shadow edges. Sunlight at this time of the day and coming from this kind of angle,
tends to produce shadows that have a very obvious softness about their edges or
penumbra. At this moment in time though, we have shadow edges that are looking
quite hard.
You may have noticed in the TexSky options though, that our sun, unlike many V-Ray
light objects, has no apparent control for altering the softness of shadow edges. The
trick here is to remember that the V-Ray Sun is designed to function as a physically
accurate light source, and in the real world, in order to create a diffused or softening
