5. In the naming field right at the top of the editor, modify the component name
slightly so that it reads, V-Ray IES Down Light . (If you like, you can also
add a useful description to the Component Definition Description box just
below it.)
6. Finally, hit the escape key on your keyboard to exit the Component place-
ment mode.
If we now right-click on our light object, we may become concerned about the fact
that we appear to have lost the ability to actually edit its properties. This happens
due to the fact that the light object as a group has been placed inside a component
node. To make the light group editable, we will first need to double-click on the light
component and then right-click on the now-exposed light group in order to get to the
light editor in the usual way. Again, the workflow may be a little confusing at first, but
it all makes perfect sense once you get into the flow.
Now we are ready to create two banks of our down lights, with each individual light
object pointing straight at the wall-mounted frames. To start the process, we need to
perform the following steps:
1. Click on the Down Lighter Up Close Scene tab to get ourselves into a better
position.
2. After doing so, we can then use the viewport navigation tools to focus on a
currently unoccupied piece of down light geometry.
3. Now, we can again click to select the V-Ray IES Down Light component in
the editor and follow exactly the same placement procedure as per our initial
IES light.
We will of course need to repeat this process for each of the unoccupied down light
fixtures, but as this is really a function of SketchUp and not V-Ray itself, we are going
to jump ahead a little and load the Night_Time_Interior_03.skp file from the
Exercise files folder.
Of course, if as a means of practice you want to keep going with the current scene
and place each of the light components yourself, please feel free to do so, and then
continue from this point once you have them all placed correctly.
