In one fun example, we took a market basket visualization that we created
for a client to compare correlations of financial assets and changed the data
to a set of correlations between some of the top Twitter celebrities, as shown
in
Figure 1-11
. The distance between any pair of nodes indicates the strength
ofthecorrelation (closenodeshaveastrongrelationship). Becausethereare
manyitems,weturnedoffallthelinkstokeepthedisplayclean.Perhapsnot
surprisingly, there is a strong correlation between celebrities such as Justin
Bieber, Lady Gaga, Felicia Day, and Taylor Swift. Inverse correlations are
on the flip side in this visualization, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Margaret
Atwood and Richard Florida are inversely correlated to the pop stars.
