Figure 2.5 The 97 family practitioner areas were, usually, amalgamations of
local government districts into which doctor's practices were grouped. These are
the areas for which migration rates were obtainable for the years between the
censuses. This is because National Health Service patients need to re-register
with a new doctor when they move.
