Figure 2.1 A prototype version of a parliamentary cartogram where each con-
stituency is represented by an oval of equal size. Many ovals overlap because
the cartogram is still in the process of being made. Each oval is coloured by the
results of a general election using red-yellow-blue colour shading. The name of
each constituency is included, starting from within its oval.
