Figure 1.12 The 1987 census of employment by 10 444 frozen census wards on
the equal population cartogram. Manufacturing industries were more dominant
in Northern England and service industries more prevalent in the South, but both
were mixed about the other. The coalfields of Yorkshire can be clearly made out
(Energy), while agricultural workers are visible in smaller rural wards.
