Figure 1.3 Height of the surface shows the rate of divergence of each point on
the complex plane, to infinity. The Mandelbrot and Julia sets essentially trace out
one-dimensional lines in two-dimensional space. These are of such complexity,
however, that a three-dimensional projection can be illuminating. These pictures
are derived from simple equations. Note: the resolution reflects the original pixel
sizes of the six screen shots are shown here.
