Figure 10.1 Thiessen polygons constructed around centres of 10 444 census
wards from the 1981 census equal population cartogram. Space is subdivided by
lines bisecting unseen lines joining neighbouring invisible centroids. The result-
ing image is quite elegant. Time can also be divided in a similar manner. There
is a problem with the temporal as with the coastal boundary, which is well illus-
trated here.
