Figure 9.9 Two slices of time, each of several hundred incidents of cancer,
mainly leukaemia, are shown, viewed from a fixed point in the future on the equal
area map of North East England, with time as a third dimension. The shape of
Tyneside can be made out from the cases. All cases have an equal volume despite
the perspective view, which does work by drawing nearer spheres as slightly
larger. Note: these two images were originally ray-traced onto a relatively low
resolution screen.
