Figure 9.5 The palest ring can be seen around London where, in 1983/1984,
suburban housing prices were increasing fastest. The dark expanse of the northern
half of the country shows how prices increased there (but less so) in later years.
Scotland appears a relatively independent market. The speckled nature of the
picture shows how the situation was not at all uniform; there was great local
variation.
