The use of Contours
(without colour) to
Depict Surface Height
Figure 7.2 Fifty metre contours on a slightly skewed equal land area projection,
but now drawn using only black and white. Without some other indication, like
colour or the contour heights, we have no idea whether a particular slope is rising
or falling. It is also difficult to gauge where the highest points may lie. Contour
diagrams do not show the shape of surfaces very well by themselves.
