Figure 5.8 This is the first of a series of ward cartograms showing housing
price inflation, all using the same grey scale. Housing prices, obtained then from
building society records, can vary considerably by area, so this level of detail
(10 444 wards) is needed to study it. In 1984 few sales were being made and
recorded. You can see little more than largely random variation.
